COLLECTIVE INSPIRATION

Researching into various stadium designs, I found they all had very different qualities,

the designs all varied in style and layout : this kept a fresh, exciting outlook on the sights.

One thing they had in common though, was the open air roof design. This allowed light

out and into the structure, also this helps the structures to come together with the outside.

Conceived as both a concert hall and a sports stadium, the 25,000-seat stadium comprises a lightweight steel structure with a faceted membrane facade intended to resemble cut crystal. It was originally planned as a temporary structure, but was subtly altered during construction to enable it to remain in place for longer.

The design is a circular building with a skeletal structure modelled on the wings of a bird in flight. A series of feather-like sections would make up the animated exterior. Each would be able to shift itself independently, adapting to changing weather and lighting but also creating a spectacle during ceremonial occasions.

The building features an oval-shaped structure with a rhythmic facade made up of 88 projecting ribs. The team added a new roof, lowering the pitch and upgrading the services, and adding new shops and a dedicated football museum.

The main features of the design are:

• Bowl - a sunken bowl built into the ground for the field of play and lower permanent seating, designed to bring spectators close to the action;

• Seats – 25,000 permanent, 55,000 demountable;

• Roof - a cable supported roof will stretch 28 metres the whole way around the Stadium, providing cover for two thirds of spectators;

• Wrap – a fabric curtain will wrap around the stadium structure, acting as additional protection and shelter for spectators;

• Pods – facilities such as catering and merchandising will be grouped into self-contained ‘pod’ structures, adding to the spectator experience around the access level of the Stadium.
