FMP Proposal : PROVOKING PERCEPTIONS

Section 1: Review (Approx 150 words)
Coming into the course with a narrow mind I thought subjects like Lens Based Media would not aid me in my creative development; I was mistaken. I found through these subjects I was able to introduce variety into my work, which in turn has developed me into a more diverse individual within these past few projects. Through this process of rapid change, I have learnt how to play around with my ideas and how to combine different elements into my work. Transitioning into 3DD, these skills were very useful. In the coming year I aspire to study architecture, 3DD has reaffirmed by passion for the subject. My experiences with the previous modules has played an impact into my proposal design as it strongly shows my development as an individual and how this has changed me as a creative.
Section 2: Project Concept (approx 250 words)
Architecture like many other art forms comes from factors within the human mind and our experiences combined. Within my project I will be looking into the idea of perception and how our emotions and desires (which can be caused by current events, previous experiences, etc.) can alter the design process of a structure. Similar to structures like the Centre Pompidou (by Renzo Piano) and Conflict Space (by Alfredo J. Martinez J.) I will create something that shows the interior skeleton of a building; almost like an x ray exposing what the exterior aesthetics are hiding away inside. With this project I will try to resolve the question of how an exterior takes away the personality of the architect from the structure. To develop my design I will be looking into reconstructions of various things, and how taking something apart and then putting it back together can provide different results; this links in with of provoking various perceptions of the same object/structure. Through the evolution of my project, I will come across various concepts, qualities and problems which I am not aware of at the moment, using the skills I will develop throughout this project (i.e. rapid random experimenting, taking inspiration from my surroundings) I will solve these issues, documenting as I go along. I need a variety of resources, starting from CAD software, and drawing utensils to hands on materials so that my project can be as diverse as possible to achieve the highest outcome. For my final piece I will create a model as it will portray my concept in the best way.
Section 3: Evaluation (approx 100 words)
My blog and sketchbook will be my regular forms of self evaluation; here I will record changes as well as developments within my project. Weekly I will return to my action plan to stay up to date with my progress and check if my targets were reached – if not then I will need to consider why. As weekly group feedback is available I will take on the adjustments to my work, making it the best version possible, also, I will use my end of project statement evaluation to consider my development, changes and improvements to my project.
