Space - The emptiness or area between, around, above, below, or contained within objects. Shapes and forms are defined by the space around and within them, just as spaces are defined by the shapes and forms around and within them.

“Nature is not something separate from us. So when we say that we have lost our connection to nature. We’ve lost our connection to ourselves.”

Andy Goldsworthy is a sculptor who is inspired by the nature around him. He reflects this within his work by using things made by nature like branches.

As a response to Andy Goldsworthy’s sculptor ‘Space’ I used small wooden sticks to model together something similar. The overlapping of each stick allows space through, some more than others. This helps create a contrast between positive and negative lighting as well as space in general. Putting glass in the top square would allow the inner construction to be seen from the outside.

Cornelia Konrads

Konrad uses a sense of harmony and opposition of nature. Here she plays with the way light bends and refracts through the installation. The way the branches go through the tree trunks symbolise the idea of regrowth and how the trunk is contained into the branches. The effect light carries in the installation plays really well into the idea of a gloomy forest - controlling the amount of light like natural tree branches. Through these methods, Cornelia Konrads gives her installation full control over light and how the branches alter it to form new shadows and shapes.
